Resilience

ABOUT

The Resilience committee develops positions and recommendations on issues in the emerging field of resilience-based planning and design. The committee coordinates with state efforts (SEAOC), national efforts (NCSEA) and other groups (including NIST, FEMA, ASCE, and ICC) to develop concepts of natural hazards resilience as they relate to the practice of structural engineering.

COMMITTEE CHARGES

  1. Collaborate with other organizations that are interested in community resilience. This can include other professional groups (ASCE, AIA, EERI, PEER, etc.), policy/planning groups (ABAG, SPUR, CalBO, etc.), academic institutions, and groups related to disaster recovery (FEMA, CalOES, insurance groups, etc.).
  2. Coordinate research efforts with state (SEAOC) and national (NCSEA) Resilience Committees. Also include other SEAs where appropriate.
  3. Act as a technical resource that communities and the SEAONC Board can utilize to develop or review local resilience based initiatives, programs, or legislation.
  4. Educate the structural engineering community about resilience, functional recovery and upcoming legislation through presentations and talks.
  5. Publish newsletter articles to keep membership informed on new and developing issues related to community resilience, case studies of recent disaster events, and scenario studies.
