ABOUT

The SEAONC Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity (SE3) Committee was established in 2015 in SEAONC with the mission of attracting and retaining the best talent into our profession, and to ensure all structural engineers have a clear pathway to success in their careers. The SEAONC SE3 Committee provides programming on racial equity, mentorship, retention and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in the structural engineering profession.

For information on the national NCSEA SE3 Committee, which administers the national NCSEA SE3 Survey biennially to study compensation, employee engagement and career satisfaction for structural engineers, go to https://www.se3committee.com.


COMMITTEE CHARGES

  1. Promote publications, resources and best practices developed by the NCSEA SE3 Committee based on the findings of the 2020 SE3 Survey results, which intend to improve retention, equity and engagement in the structural engineering profession.
  2. Advocate for sustained conversations and actions for justice, equity, diversity and inclusion within the structural engineering profession.
  3. Research the civil engineering pipeline to determine when the pipeline breaks down for Black, Indigenous and Latinx college students pursuing an education in civil/structural engineering. Provide best practices based on this research.
  4. Provide resources, skills and workshops for engineers of all levels to encourage a more inclusive workplace.
  5. Collaborate with like-minded efforts from industry partners, e.g., AIA Equity by Design, SHPE, NSBE, etc.
  6. Give presentations to engineering firms, AEC organizations and universities in our Northern California region.
  7. Encourage and support the development of SE3 committees in other Member Organizations of the NCSEA.
